I will never understand people's fascination/love for this city (Vegas). I come very close to loathing it. And yet, here I am, for yet another conference . . .
I think Vegas is kind of gross too, but there are some terrific shows that are in residence there including "Ka," the newest Cirque du Soleil production which hasn't yet gone on tour. I don't know if people actually like going to Vegas as opposed to bragging about their activities there. For some people, one excuse is as good as any to act irresponsibly or at least out of character and the Las Vegas tourism bureau's commercials encourage it. It's warm, reliably sunny (or is it?) and fairly easy to find your vice of choice.....I hope you at least get the chance to get away from the undergrads. ;o)
It was warm while I was there, which was an improvement on the rainy weather here. I wish I could have seen a Cirque du Soleil production. I've seen one show, many years ago, in Orlando with the family. It was amazing. I desperately want to see "Love", which was playing at the Mirage, but my graduate student budget wasn't loving the cost of the tickets.
Luckily, no undergrads at these conferences. And I made some new graduate student friends. So it wasn't all bad. :)
